Azerbaijan calls on EU to prevent activities of legal entities and individuals in occupied Azerbaijani lands

The European Union should prevent the activities of legal entities and individuals in the occupied Azerbaijani territories, said Ambassador Kamil Khasiyev, representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

He made the remarks at the 15th meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in Baku on May 8, APA reports.

Speaking of the process of negotiation on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the ambassador noted that Armenia’s actions are aimed at preserving the status quo.

He pointed out that companies from the EU countries illegally operate in the occupied Azerbaijani territories.

“Azerbaijan expects norms applied by the EU in respect of other occupied territories to be applied in respect of its occupied lands as well. The EU can prevent the delivery of goods and services to the occupied territories. We expect the EU to prevent activity of individuals and legal entities in the occupied Azerbaijani lands. This was also reflected in the letter sent by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini,” he said.

Khasiyev also touched upon the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on the “Chiragov and others v. Armenia” case.

“According to the ECHR judgment, Armenia had to pay compensation to those recognized as victims in the “Chiragov and others v. Armenia” case. However, this compensation was not paid. The EU can help in this matter,” he said.
