Ali Hasanov: Turkish TV series were resulting in Turkish language outdoing Azerbaijani

As the Turkish language was outdoing Azerbaijani, the broadcasting of Turkish TV series were suspended in the country a few years ago, said Ali Hasanov, the Azerbaijani president’s aide for public and political affairs.

Hasanov made the remarks at a conference titled “The Role of Media in the Preservation and Development of the Azerbaijani Literary Language,” which was held in Baku on Friday, APA reported.

“What is the main threat to our language? After Turkish TV series were suspended in Azerbaijan, some circles were claiming that the use of Turkish language was banned in Azerbaijan,” the presidential aide said. “However, one aspect should be considered. For the Ukrainian language, the danger lies not in Turkish, but in Russian. Azerbaijan and Turkey are fraternal, allied states. However, if Kazakhs have the Kazakh language and Uzbeks speak the Uzbek language, then why should not the Azerbaijani language live? Why should we ruin this language?”

Hasanov noted that Azerbaijan’s step in this regard was met with Turkey’s understanding. “Turkish TV channels still broadcast in Azerbaijan, and all interested person can watch them. Each of us should strive to preserve the Azerbaijani language,” he added.
