Moscow vows to respond to UK threats to impose sanctions over Skripal case

UK ambassador to Russia Laurie Bristow said Tuesday he discussed with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov the poisoning of former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal, APA reports quoting Sputnik.

"Any threats of 'sanctions' against Russia will not remain unanswered. This should be understood by the British," the Russian Foreign Ministry announced.

Moscow is proceeding from the fact that the incident with Sergei Skripal in the UK is another unscrupulous attempt to discredit Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

On Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned British Ambassador to Russia Laurie Bristow, against the backdrop of the escalation of relations between London and Moscow in connection with the poisoning of former GRU colonel Sergei Skripal in the British city of Salisbury.

The UK embassy in Russia denied to Sputnik on Tuesday that the ambassador was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, adding that he would be "visiting for talks with First Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov."
